S.N. Vol #6

HEADING HOME

December 11, Vol. 6

So, I am on the way home.  Right now I am sitting in my hotel room on the 6th floor over looking the Persian Gulf.  The view is really amazing.  I will be glad to leave.

My flight from Spiecher to Kuwait was on a C-130 that made several different stops and completed my cross country tour of Iraq.   Once in Kuwait I met up with another guy who was on my flight and we decided that we would stick together.  The 2 options were stay on base at the lovely tent palace or go into Kuwait and stay at a hotel that has hot water and descent toilet paper.  Go look back at sentence #2 if you are having a hard time figuring out which one I chose.  The first stop we made was the crown plaza that turned out to be fully booked.  The second place we went to was the Holiday Inn….sounds cheap but it is really nice.  They also were booked but miraculously found a room when my new buddy Kurt and I gave them the evil eye. My evil eye probably looked like I had eaten bad fish but Kurt has the evil eye look down. I can’t tell you what he does but let’s just say the burn marks on his face and the 7 inch slash mark across his stomach doesn’t mean he is a crappy army cook.  Oh, if you did not notice I said they found us “A” room as in one.   So, my choice was either to stay in a room with Kurt or tell him to go somewhere else and get a room then have him knife me and throw me in a trash can.  I opted for the first choice. The bright side is it’s like having my own personal body guard to ward off any unexpected conflicts with roving bands of hotel nomads.  He is cool like that.

I am still on the lookout for camels.  That was actually the main reason I decided to go through Kuwait instead of Germany on my way back home.  Well, that and the fact its bitter cold in Germany this time of year and I packed no mittens. Mittens, it is like kittens but with an “m”. Won’t ever get those two confused again.  Man, was that a bad day, it was cold out and before I rushed outside I gave my mittens a saucer of milk and threw on my kittens.  Wow, did they scream.  Back to the camels, I was told that I should be able to at least get a picture of one while driving to the airport from the hotel. Keep your fingers crossed.

So, all that is left is a 14 hour flight to the states and then another 3 hour flight before I hit DFW.   That’s about all I have left to say.  Looking forward to shooting at some people when I get back in.  Hope the weather stays good for Saturday.  See you guys at the Park.
